Bruce Dowell has taught golfers in Western Kentucky and Southern Illinois for over 15 years. He began teaching at The Country Club of Paducah and has also taught at The Silos Golf Club and at the Gambit Golf Club in Vienna, Illinois. |
| His students range in skill level from pure beginners to playing professionals. Bruce encourages ladies and girls to take lessons as well. And he believes improvement starts with sound fundamentals and understanding what works and what doesn't work, all while keeping the game as simple as possible. Bruce also incorporates all facets of the short game, course management, and the mental side of the game into lessons. Many golfers take lessons or practice at a driving range, but don't focus on these parts of the scoring game. Drake Creek Golf Club has a superb practice range with multiple target greens, two practice bunkers, and a great chipping/pitching/putting green area. Bruce's teaching philosophy is based on analyzing ball flight and impact positions as they relate to swing path, clubface angle, swing plane, and body rotation. After over 15 years of teaching the game of golf, 5 key elements are the basis of his teaching: -Shot trajectory -Ball Curvature -Ball Speed -Contact on the clubface -Impact conditions At least one of these elements will show a constant pattern and the direction the lessons should lead. Bruce also believe that most golfers do not need a "complete overhaul". Most lessons should end with better shots than when the lesson began. Standard adult golf lessons last 50-60 minutes and cost $50 per lesson or $200 for five lessons. Included with all lessons is a write-up with notes from the lesson to serve as reminders during practice/play. Bruce also sends lesson articles to all students at least twice a month. Serious golfers may learn and practice throughout the year as Bruce teaches year round. Golf lessons for junior, high school, and college players also last about 50 minutes and cost $40 per lesson or $200 for a series of six lessons. Junior golfers are taught with the future in mind. Junior students who play on their high school team are automatically entered into Operation State Tournament, Drake Creek's training program for high school golfers. OST has been in existence for 3 years, and Bruce's students from this program have already won two high school girls regional titles, and many have played in State High School Championship tournaments. Bruce's junior golfer students have won hundreds of junior tournaments throughout Kentucky, Illinois, Tennessee, and Missouri over the years, and many have enjoyed success in the college ranks. If a junior has aspirations of playing college golf, then a plan is developed to reach that goal. Bruce will assist in creating a college golf resume, contacting college coaches, and doing the things to help a junior golfer become a great student athlete. There are many college scholarship opportunities available for both boys and girls that go unfilled or to international players due to the lack of US junior golfers pursuing these chances.
